'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Ethan Galbraith continues contest with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he remembers the thrilling dying seconds of his team's stunning fightback victory against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. The encounter culminated with Galbraith briefly donning a fan's glasses after the pitch-side pile-on.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a speculative shot from 25 yards, and his teammate promptly converted the deflection before charging toward the crowd to celebrate, with supporters congregating around the players.

Stunning Reversal

The result capped an extraordinary comeback given the team had been behind 2-0 midway through the second half. During the celebrations, there was some minor mishaps. He shared, "There was a fan trying to get our attention and we were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're people, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The result secured a upcoming fixture at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a club Galbraith came close against at the same stage of the FA Cup with his former club in February. Galbraith had a prime vantage point when his former team took the lead in stunning style, with a teammate's first-time shot from about long distance going in via the bar and the City goalkeeper. It feels criminal that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've awarded it to him for taking the effort on from that far out," says Galbraith, who played in the middle before switching to right flank after the team changed formation. That meant facing off against the England international, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the attacker was among the City players who praised the way the underdogs played positively.

Opponent's Class

"Athletically they are outstanding but even the basics and basic skills, they can just perform consistently," the midfielder notes. "It seems as if they complete every delivery and they are adept at control and slow down a game. You can believe you're doing well and then abruptly they will just fizz a pass between defenders without you even spotting it. You have to be alert every second of the game. It demands a tough attitude and attention just to stay in the game."

Welsh Transition

The Welsh side were keen on Galbraith in January and secured his signature to bring him in in the summer in a significant move. He made a name as a crowd pleaser across a couple of years at his former club and has quickly achieved similar status in south Wales. At his previous team he reunited with his former manager, who previously gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in senior football on loan at Doncaster from United. Then came a temporary move at lower division Salford City, before he departed Old Trafford.

Learning Curve

"I was likely a somewhat inexperienced going into professional soccer. I think a lot of players would say development squad matches is entirely separate. Sometimes it appears possession is exchanged without serious challenge. There's not many physical contests. Once you start playing professional matches you have to adapt rapidly."

International Recognition

He has shown that growth for his team and nation, excelling for Northern Ireland, who are fighting to qualify for the World Cup next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has been selected in the recent fixtures, including both legs fixtures against the German national team. His former international manager, Galbraith's former international manager, offered the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he handles the football and his eye for a decisive through ball.

Humble Beginnings

This marks quite the ride for the youngster from the local area in the Belfast suburb, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who grew up watching his parent, the elder Galbraith, also a midfielder, play for his father's team.

Red Devils Debut

Galbraith's single match for the Red Devils came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a Europa League trip to Astana, where they played on an artificial pitch and the venue ceiling was shut owing to temperatures of bitter cold. "This represented a lengthy journey and it was freezing," he comments, smiling. "The week before, myself and quite a few of the young lads practiced as a group, so that assisted our preparation. Just to join the main group and earn some playing time at the end was amazing."

Moving On

What was the challenge was it to depart Manchester United, the club he transferred from aged a teenager? "It was relatively straightforward, because I got to the stage where I realized I wouldn't break through at first-team level. I'm extremely thankful for the experience gained but it became apparent where I thought I had to take a different path, join a smaller club and play men's football. Now I'm steadily working my way back up."

Welsh Adaptation

It is mid-afternoon at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has somewhere to be at 5pm: a driving theory test, another step towards getting on the road. Prior to relocating to his new neighborhood, the mid-twenties player was a regular in Swansea's nicknamed team minibus, a team vehicle driven by club employees, the drivers, which transports players to and from training and matches.

"I travel with the Portuguese player, Ronald, Malick Yalcouyé – a former passenger used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's nice to spend time with the guys but I'm aiming to be the subsequent individual to stop using the bus and behind the wheel. Franco is known for his humor; he's frequently playing tricks."

Fan Interactions

When he represented Leyton Orient, Galbraith would mix with followers on the Tube after starting his journey at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
