The team Vets Over-35s are situated in southern the city and play in the Cheshire-based Vets League Premier Division.

Their squad list this campaign features nine ex- top-flight footballers, with a collective 1,801 top-flight appearances.

The elite team also includes over 220 top division scores and 325 international appearances.

They feature Papiss Cisse, who netted 37 scores in 117 appearances for his former club after joining them for £9m from German league club SC Freiburg in January 2012.

Wythenshawe's roster for this campaign also includes former professionals such as England and Liverpool striker Emile Heskey, Hull City and Burnley FC midfielder George Boyd, Everton forward Oumar Niasse, Wigan Athletic full-back Maynor Figueroa, Manchester City duo Stephen Ireland and Nedum Onuoha and Premier League title victors Joleon Lescott and Danny Drinkwater.

Collectively, the former Premier League players have won fifteen major honors and moved for total transfer fees of about £123 million.

Famous Names and International Stars

Stephen Ireland began turning out for the side during pre-season this summer through good friend and current Wythenshawe teammate Blake Norton, and the ex- Republic of Ireland midfielder then asked additional ex-pros, who all compete in a midweek small-sided game, to participate.

Former Senegal striker Niasse, who scored 12 scores in sixty-five top-flight matches for the Toffees and still goes to their home games, also had his debut against Collegiate OB - who are located in the city and use an Blue training kit as their strip.

"My mate Stephen Ireland said 'come and have a game, it's good fun'," said the striker.

"After that he informed me we were facing a side from the city and the surprise I had when I noticed them sporting Blue shirts - I thought this is strange for me!

"If you still enjoy the game and you know you can still play, wherever you can kick a ball, what are you going to choose?

"Those people who come and watch are happy and to give a moment if they watch us competing there and to pose us questions - it's really about the pleasure of us getting a place we can enjoy football, with organisation of course."

So great is the squad depth at the club, Niasse made his debut at defender.

"That's a bit unusual but then, I enjoy sprinting and just move forward - I'm not staying back that much," he said.

"I warn my defender 'I'm not staying' and that I'm just going to continue running.

"That running is what I'm looking for. It's good fun."

Along with Cisse's six scores on debut, Ireland has netted 8 in three games for the side, while Boyd scored five on his first appearance and Joleon Lescott, a centre-half by position, scored a hat-trick in one game up front.

Wythenshawe are top of the Top Tier with 3 victories from 3 and a GD of +19.

Paul Barrow, thirty-eight, who plays on the flank for Collegiate OB, faced former Wigan full-back Figueroa on Sunday - and had to explain his young boy who Heskey was.

Figueroa has played at two global tournaments for his country, in addition to featuring in more than two hundred Premier League games.

"It was going round like wildfire they had all these former top-flight stars," said Barrow.

"I felt I was a bit awestruck playing against him to be honest.

"Even Emile [Heskey] got on and he's got 60-odd English appearances.

"We competed well for a solid 20 minutes but then we had a man sent off and it was hard.

"We really haven't ceased chatting about it - I was calling my mum and brother on the journey home.

"They were all really nice, shaking our hands after the match - it was like playing a bunch of regular fellas.

"Now we can't wait for the second fixture."
