Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Officers say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then located numerous other marked vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say preliminary tests show the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; officials are presently not informed of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials announced they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have asked to the residents for information.
An important official commented the vandalism left him speechless and required to be addressed quickly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on people of migrant background in February 2020.
