In a surprising collaboration that defies conventional predictions, Ubisoft has announced an digital crossover between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the acclaimed anime series Attack on Titan. The unusual Thanksgiving event operates from November 25 through December 22, offering complimentary additional story content for Shadows players.

Mysterious Mission Disclosed

According to the authorized announcement, "A mysterious encounter leads protagonists Naoe and Yasuke into a new quest, where whispers of banned practices and fearsome metamorphoses reverberate through the darkness." The plot presents a "oddly garbed woman named Ada" who assigns the characters with journeying into the Gemstone Grotto—a significant location from Attack on Titan—to rescue her companion from a hidden group.

The questline focuses on "strange trials and a monstrous foe" and is open to all players who have gained access to the Yasuke character.

Familiar Places and Changes

The preview features the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan recreated as the Crystal Cave. This historic location was earlier where the Reiss royal family handed down the Founding Titan ability through eras. The trailer ends with a striking scene showing a character, probably the captive, morphing into a Titan that towers over Naoe and Yasuke.

Special Rewards and Bonus Features

Players who finish the quest will obtain an exclusive katana together with multiple objects hidden throughout the area in secret chests. The update also features purchasable Attack on Titan item packs, offering:

• Titan-inspired outfit for Yasuke
• Mikasa attire for Naoe
• Unique weapons
• Survey Corps mount

This release also adds the game's third no-cost story addition, titled "The Enigma." This playful mission partners Naoe and Yasuke as they trade signature skills: Naoe introduces a performative version of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke learns non-fatal stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "The Mystery" also contains a original environmental puzzle that may finally explain some unanswered questions from the main storyline.

Earlier Japanese Animation Partnerships

This signifies hardly the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has partnered with popular anime properties. The series earlier featured a 2020 cross-promotional story uniting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Additionally, Valhalla unofficially featured a quest that obviously referenced the famous series One-Punch Man.
